" On the little port of Povlja, there are three restaurants and one bar offering from May to October simple family cooking with good quality local products. Two small supermarkets and a vegetable market satisfy the daily needs. There is a village post office with “bureau de change” facilities, a tourist office, massage and beauty centre. Small motor boats can be rented by the day and a diving centre offers outings for beginners and experienced divers. In the nearby village of Selca, four and a half miles away (7km) there is a fish market in the mornings a larger supermarket, a traditional local butcher, a doctor, a chemist, hair-dresser and other restaurants. In the port of Sumartin, 6 miles from Povlja (10km) there is a petrol station and a small car ferry going to the town of Makarska, on the mainland, 160km from Dubrovnik. The local language is Croatian – most people speak English or German. Outside the main summer season the apartment can also be rented for longer stays at special rates.
