" Kalymnos is famous for : - its sponge fishing industry : almost all the old men of the island were one diving for fishing sponges - one of the worldwide best climbing spot: its landscape and geology are ideal for this, with beautiful mountains and interesting caves - beautiful coasts with nice beaches still uncrowded during high season - nice fish tavernas near the sea or on the port and traditional festivities, music & and dance Because of the low level of tourism, Kalymnos is still very authentic.This gives to the island a particular atmosphere. "

GETTING TO KALYMNOS : (see also www.kalymnos-isl.gr) -by plane : Kalymnos has an airport located at Argos :1 or 2 flights daily from Athens (50mn- Olympic Air.The next closest airport is on nearby island Kos which has a regularly scheduled service on Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines, and is well-served by low-cost airlines during the summer months to Central and Western European nations. Then,it is very easily accessed from Kalymnos island trough Mastichari, a small port on Kos island which is only 8 miles away from Pothia the Kalymnos island port .The trip Mastichari - Kalymnos lasts from 20-50 mn. You can also take a flight from Athens to Leros and then a boat to Kalymnos - by boat : many connections from Piraeus (port of Athens), from Kos, from Leros or from Rhodes.
