" ORTA...A DREAM TO REMEMBER The charm and fascination of the ancient village of Orta San Giulio are difficult to describe. Orta is the pearl and the heart of the lake. The absence of cars, the old houses with granite portals and wrought iron gates, the narrow lanes, the inner courtyards and the small, typical shops will take the visitor back to the past. Largely unchanged for centuries Orta is simply enchanting with its typical cobbled streets and archways lined with plenty of bars and restaurants. The pace of the village is slow and unhurried and makes for a perfect place to spend a relaxing holiday. Take a two-minutes stroll through the narrow lanes to the main square and enjoy a characteristic Italian dish or drink excellent wines in one of the typical little cafes and restaurants which offer genuine food and hospitality. In this unspoiled corner of Northern Italy, the breathtaking scenery, together with the artistic and cultural patrimony, will give you the feeling of an unforgettable experience. This area also excels for the mild and healthy climate as testify the sub tropical vegetation with palms, oleanders, camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons, hybiscus, hortenses, kiwiplantations and vineyards. Country road N.229 for Borgomanero – Gozzano – ORTA SAN GIULIO;From Domodossola (45 km.) Country road to Gravellona Toce, Omegna and ORTA SAN GIULIO. BY TRAIN The railway station of Orta is called Orta-Miasino Through Switzerland to Domodossola. At Domodossola change and take the line Domodossola/Novara via Omegna; you get off at Orta Miasino in about one hour. From Milan: line to Novara (30 min. ). Change and take the line Novara/Domodossola through Borgomanero; you get off at Orta Miasino in about 1 hour. "Fabulous apartment with spectacular views. Extemely friendly owner with excellent English language skills. Beautiful apartment in beautiful location. Amazing wine bar below, second best gelati in Italy (only beaten by Pizzo)and lots of choices for top quality dining. We loved this place. Easy day trip to Isola Bella."

"We were very happy with the apartment which was very well appointed and adequate for us, two adults and three children. The village was very nice and literally on our doorstep. the rented garage was a must for a us - it was a public holiday and very busy in the village. Everything went as planned and was simple - Mariella was there to meet us and was helpful. The flat was great- an old romantic building - peaceful and with everything we needed. We thought Orta was a lovely old town - has a few cafes and restaurants and some graet ice-cream shops which the kids loved."

"The accommodation was excellant and Mariella so friendly. The town is perfect if a little noisy at night. if not too hot the double glazing shuts it all out but if you can't beat themn join them we did. Swimming great. Easy to get to other lakes and mountains. Garage we rented gave us peace of mind asno cars are allowed in town. We had a wonderful time."

"A few comments: the bedrooms are loft bedrooms with a curtain for visual privacy only. The shower is quite small, (and we have rented many times in Italy, so have something to compare it to), the light above the cooking range was out, which we pointed out to the owner, but it was not fixed during our one week rental, there was no soap in the bathrooms nor was there anything- salt, sugar, coffee, etc. in the kitchen. The parking is an added cost(7 euros/day), unless one were staying during a very quiet, off season period, when it might be possible to find one of the few free parking places. Overall we found the landlord to be responsive and helpful, especially since we had problems with luggage arriving late, which she helped us with. Given the price, we felt that even factoring in the added cost of paid parking, it was reasonably priced and a very pleasent accommodation."
