" A legend says that the lands of “what is now the village” were given to a Roman legionnaire named Grussius as a reward after having spent his life fighting for the Empire. Gruissan has long been a village of fishermen, sailors and winemakers. Its tiny streets are winding in “ circulade” around the church and the castle of the “Tour Barberousse.” The house is minutes away from several sandy beaches, including the famous “beach cottages” built on piles and which have become famous thanks to a French movie. Gruissan is surrounded by vineyards, ponds and other typical villages, all located in the regional natural protected park of “La Narbonnaise”. Finally, in addition to its own charm and typical Farmers’ market, the village has everything to please you as much as the nearby marina whose docks, nestled between the pond, the Garrigue and the sea are particularly lively in the summertime. You will find all kinds of shops and activities: marina, fishing, bars and restaurants, hotels, entertainment, casinos, cinema, sea fishing, horse clubs, water sports and activities, walking in natural and beautiful spots, among others.. The city of Narbonne, 15 km away, will complete all your needs. At last, those loving to discover a cultural heritage will enjoy various places: the remains of the Roman province of Narbonne, prehistoric excavations, Cathar castles and sites, the medieval city of Carcassonne, the "Canal du Midi", ... "
