Best points Il Palagetto is found in the heart of Florence, in “Oltrarno,” next to one of the most characteristic and typical zones in the historical center, that of San Frediano.
The Santa Maria Novella train station is an easy fifteen-minute walk (ten minutes by bus) from the house. From there, all of the most important monuments and attractions of the city are only a short and pleasant walk away. La Fortezza da Basso and Stazione Leopolda (where many festivals and fairs are often held) are in the immediate vicinity, and are easily reachable in a few minutes by taxi or car from Il Palagetto.
Even though our guesthouse is centrally located – at the foot of the hills of Monte Oliveto – it is comfortably tucked away from the traffic and street noise, facing an old, typical Florentine street, and bordering a park with a nearby villa that was once owned by nobility. Il Palagetto Guest House was once the home of a prestigious family in the 600s, and was at one time a part of the agricultural property of the Olivetani fathers (of the nearby convent of Monte Oliveto) outside the city gates. It was transformed into a small residence in the nineteenth century. A private parking area is included for the exclusive use of our guests.
Many parts of the home are still partly conserved in their original form, including the cotto antico (ceramic tile that has been fired) and graniglie toscane (marble mosaic) floors, and a caminetto in terracotta (terracotta fireplace).

Means of access Il Palagetto Guest House is found in the center of the city outside the ZTL zone (limited traffic zone), making it comfortably reachable by car. From the main train station, Santa Maria Novella, take bus 12 and ask the driver to make the first stop after Piazza Vier Vettori. From the Airport, take bus to the SMN station and then bus 12. From highway A1, exit at Firenze Certosa and follow directions to Firenze Centro until passing the first large square of Porta Romana and then Piazza Tasso. 100 meters ahead you will notive a large Esso store on the left, and then a street that inclines towards a hill (there is a summer cinema called “Chiarodiluna” on the corner). Il Palagetto is less than 100 meters from the beginning of that street (it is a small three floored, rose colored villa), on Via Monte Oliveto, #52.
