It is in fact from here that Francesco I de Medici watched his beloved Bianca Cappello who lived in the building on via Maggio which the Great Duke had built in 1566 by Buontalenti, whose beautiful fountain is underneath the aedicule. Indeed, the love story between Francesco I de Medici and the venetian Bianca Cappello was one of the most beautiful and passionate love stories from the Renaissance period, and this house bore witness to their story. To one side there is Ponte Vecchio, one of the most important symbols of the city, and to the other there is Ponte a Santa Trinità which leads into Via Tornabuoni, the most exclusive shopping street of the city. It is possible to leave the car for a few days and wander around, taking in the sights and sounds one of the most beautiful cities in the world - the museums, the buildings and the churches, Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, the Cathedral with Brunelleschi’s magnificent dome and Giotto’s Belltower. Continuing towards Piazza Santa Croce, you can stop in a ‘trattoria’ for a light lunch, or wander around the characteristic market of San Lorenzo.
