Traditional Mansion with character

"We spent a pleasant, laid-back week in this handsome rental. One of our daughters was working in Casa, and this location allowed her to visit nightly, albeit with a long train/taxi commute. I found El Jadida to be a great place to wander, surrounded by the urban life of Morocco, without anyone dead set to sell me a rug or necklace. Except for the 16th century Portuguese City a few blocks away, the city has few foreign tourist attractions (and refreshingly, few foreign tourists). Lots of produce, meat, etc. stalls nearby, and a long, enjoyable walk or short petite taxi ride brings you to a supermarket. There's a popular, excellent beach at the end of the #2 bus route (four miles, plus a mile walk). The bus departs frequently from outside the Portuguese City and can drop you off just up the street from the rental. The river city of Azemmour (12 miles north) is probably worth a day trip we didn't take. The rental has a soaring, massive dining room (built as an open courtyard?) with ten clerestory windows. An ample living room and two ensuite bedrooms open onto the dining room. The layout also includes a tiny, but fully functional kitchen, laundry room, hall, third bathroom and third bedroom. Upstair is an ensuite bedroom with windows opening to the street and a rooftop patio, where we ate many of our great Moroccan meals. In my bumbling way, I managed solo walks and market trips without command of French, but our daughter speaks reasonable French and that was almost essential for connecting with the charming owner and most everyone else in El Jadida. The rental had excellent furnishings and upkeep, and great daily maid service."

"This Riad was something very special indeed. The pictures on the homesite did not do it justice. It is really quite extraordinary and the restoration work has been carried out impeccably, artfully and with painstaking attention to accuracy and detail. Our patron was a charming but not interfering person who made sure that our needs were catered for and attended to. The salons opening on to the central living (original courtyard but now enclosed) were quite beautiful and the artwork superb".

"Ganz kurzfristig haben wir, schon in Marokko unterwegs, Kontakt mit der liebenswürdigen Besitzerin aufgenommen und einen sehr netten Kontakt aufgebaut. Sie wohnt direkt nebenan und läßt einen völlig in Ruhe, es sei denn, Fragen/Probleme treten auf. Wir hatten z.B. eine komplizierte Banktransaktion zu bewerkstelligen mit ausdrucken, unterschreiben und einscannen. Sie war äußerst hilfsbereit und hat alles ihr Mögliche für uns getan, damit wir die Angelegenheit erledigen konnten. Danke nochmals! Die Lage des Hauses ist super, mitten in einem marokkanischen Viertel und dennoch absolut ruhig, da alle Fenster sich zum Innenhof öffnen. In 5 bis 10 Geh-Minuten erreicht man das Altstadtzentrum mit seinem bunten Treiben und die Cite Portugaise, in 15 Minuten die Strandpromenade, wo am Abend ganz El Jadida unterwegs ist. Das Haus ist einfach umwerfend! Ein Palazzo, ohne Übertreibung! Allein der geschlossene Innenhof mißt 8 Meter in der Höhe bei einer Grundfläche von 60 m2, die Schlafzimmer mit Ensuite-Bädern 5 Meter. Welch Labsal bei den heute leider üblichen 2,50 Raumhöhe. Möbliert mit marokkanischen Antiquitäten und äußerst geschmackvoll in Farbgebung und Gestaltung ist es der Gastgeberin gelungen, ein Kleinod zu schaffen. Selbst die Dachterrasse, eine Labsal nach dem Trubel des Tages, ist wunderschön gestaltet mit riesigen Blumentöpfen und einer berankten Pergola. Der Kühlschrank war gut gefüllt, Obst stand bereit und alle Grundnahrungsmittel waren üppig vorhanden. Kleinigkeiten wie Topflappen, Salatschleuder, Bügeleisen und -brett, Waschmaschine sowieso,haben das Leben sehr erleichtert. Es gab immer frische Blumen (Bougainvillea, Jasmin etc.) und einen ausgezeichneten Zimmerservice durch das Hilfspersonal der Gastgeberin. Wir danken Francoise für Ihre Gastfreundschaft, Ihr Vertrauen und ihre Großzügigkeit und kommen sehr, sehr gerne wieder!"

De woning is groot en geschikt voor twee of drie gezinnen. Wij waren met z'n tweeen maar vonden het grandioos. Het enige minpuntje was dat wij het tweepersoonsbed niet alleen te klein vonden maar ook behoorlijk hard.Dit is overigens doorgecommuniceerd met de eigenaar.
