" When we first came across Monte da Cunca 8 years ago and saw the property and remains of the old bulidings, we were inspired to rebuild and revitalize the landscape. We wanted to create a comfortable atmosphere where guests could feel at home. The apartments are a short walk from the beach and the town, making the location ideal for relaxing and enjoying the surrounding area. When we began to renovate the buildings, we let the old structure and foundation dictate the new construction. Where a stone wall remained strong, we left it standing and built around it. With the help of many international volunteers who come to stay at our farm, we have created 8 apartments of various sizes, built from local and traditional Portuguese materials. We've constructed eucalyptus ceilings, clay, straw, and stone walls, and handmade terracotta floors. To decorate the apartments, we use clay and create many beautiful designs and patterns. Outside the apartments you will find a handmade clay pizza oven and an open air sitting/dining area for municipal use. Each apartment also has its own outdoor sitting area. At our biological farm next door we use solar power to heat the water, heat our home, and provide electricity. We also have a solar cooker to make food. To stay here is a unique and worthwhile holiday. You will feel at home in this natural setting and feel closer to nature and traditional living. It is an experience you will not forget.
