The House on the tanners's canal
The Netherlands, North Holland - Amsterdam
Best points about the property:
" In Jordaan, from the 4th floor ( with elevator!) you can enjoy a very beautiful view on the water, in the very heart of the 17th Century canals district. Jordaan is an ideal area to stay. It’s very authentic and lively, but not crowded while it’s out of the mass-tourism circuit. It’s full of interesting places to discover just walking around: bar, cafes, restaurants, weekly flea and food markets and all kinds of shops: contemporary design interior decorations, trendy fashion and jewels, funny gifts, vintage and antiques, art galleries, delicatessen, wines, gourmet and organic food….. Hints and tips from the owner:
" What to do and how to move around in the city: The house is located in the very centre, close to the Museums (Van Gogh, Rijks, Hermitage, Maritime, Anna Frank House, City Museum, Royal Palace/Dam etc.), to the movie theatres and to the best and most exciting shopping area (
Negen Straatjes, Flower Market, HM, Zara, Department Stores, etc.), antique markets (LooiersMarkt–NoorderMarkt-Niewe Spiegelgracht) and food markets (AlbertCuypMarkt/Daily – NoorderMarkt/Saturday). Close to the Vondel Park and to every style restaurants ( Thai, Vietnam, Japan, India, Indonesia, Italy, Gourmet, Fusion, etc.). You can easily reach everything, everywhere, walking or biking in a range of at most 15 minutes. You can rent bikes in the neighbourhood. And you should!! Amsterdam is a biking city! Amsterdam is well known for its canals and what is the best option to see the entire city, fast and in a different way? Of course… from the water level. One hour guided tour on a boat around the city provides great insight: historical information, tips, interesting facts.... Boats have glass roof so you are safe in case of rain or wind. BUS and TRAM in Marnixstraat (with electronic card to get at the Airport or Central Station/ at the trains’ tickets counter): Bus 170/172 to South: Museum Square, Concertgebouw, etc.; to North: Dam Square, pedestrian shopping area, Central Station - and Trams: nr. 17 – 7 – 10 "

"All was good, good location with good view! Apartment is big and comfortable."
"A simply phantastic appartement in a nice neighborhood! The location is perfect for exploring the town: museums, shopping disctricts, quiet places for flaneurs - everything within 10/20 minutes walk and nevertheless you stay in a peaceful place! The bright and nicely furnished appartement is fully equiped and perfect for 3 or 4 persons. My mother appreciated very much the elevator - not common in the canal houses. The living room offers a great view on a canal - more "Amsterdam" than this is hard to find! The owners are very helpful and kind. All in all we spent wonderful days in this place and surely will come back in winter when the canals are frozen. "
"Enjoing the beautiful Jordaan in this apartment withe an elevator was fantastic (especially for the buggy of my little baby). 5 minutes walk from Spui, 10 from museums. Clean and very well accesorized."
"We had a very pleasant stay in this apartment. I can recommend the apartment to friends and family. The lay out of the apartment, the fully equipped interior and the location in the middle of everything worked very well for our purpose of an extended week-end get away. We found everything as described in the web site. The rental request was answered swiftly combined with valuable additional information how to best reach the apartment from the airport (direct public bus!). Shops for food are just around the corner, though we did not need the kitchen due to an ample number of good not-too-touristy restaurants in the neighborhood. The higher floor provides for light and silence. Conclusio: Good pick, when in Amsterdam."
This was an absolutely wonderful apartment, location, neighborhood and host. The apartment was actually larger than we needed but completely worth it for many reasons - the view, location, elevator, reading chairs and more. The front of the apartment has windows with a great view. They overlook a smaller canal (hence quieter canal), let in a lot of light and make it possible to sit and watch the neighborhood and beautiful skies. Lots of neighbors with dogs in case you need a doggie fix while away. Saw nesting water fowl and a wedding party leaving on a boat. Bicycles everywhere made for even more interesting people watching. The furnishings were lovely and stylish in an understated way that added to the light, airy feeling in the apartment. Great reading chairs with enough lighting - something that is often missing in rentals. The apartment is spacious and has every convenience. A fully outfitted kitchen was easy to use for as much, or little, cooking as you may want. The dishwasher was a bonus we found handy. The location was terrific. Easy walking distance to public transportation, many interesting squares, shops, and food places. A full grocery store is close by as are several cheese shops and bakeries. Best of all, the public transportation system is clean, runs on-time, goes just about anywhere. Buy a multi-day pass and you can use any bus, tram or metro as much as you would like. When our feet were protesting, we took trams to see all sorts of interesting neighborhoods. Found lots of material for photos or drawing everywhere. The owners and host PP were wonderful and always willing to help both before and during our stay. When we arrived, unusually tired from long flights, we were greeted by kind and cheerful PP who had thoughtfully brought in fresh bread, fruit, milk, and orange juice to get us started. Not only did it make us feel welcome, we used it all when travel fatigue took longer than usual to dissipate. PP was ever so patient and helpful, even riding her bicycle to the apartment as needed to help. And she has a great sense of humor which we find important in life. We stayed 11 days and still had many things we wanted to do. We could have happily stayed longer. This apartment, and trip, is definitely going on our "best-of" list.
