" This cottage,part of a 3 acres rural property, is the perfect place for family holidays.Its charm owes both to the traditional rural architecture,which was left untouched,and to the simple but very comfortable furniture.The property being East/West oriented,there is plenty of sun throughout the day.Surrounding the front lawn a beautiful garden(0,075acres),with pergolas(0,025acres),provides the necessary comfort and freshness for reading,writing,painting or simply relaxing when the days get warmer.If you feel like eating out,a garden barbecue and outdoor furniture will allow you to do so.As the garden surrounds the cottage,you can also move next to the 18 inches wide and 5inches deep pool,in the back of the house.Next to the garden,you will also find many fruit trees and a vegetable garden,where you can pick yourself the fresh components of your meal.The cottage has a solar panel for heating purposes; and when it gets colder,the fireplace restores the comfort temperature in the bedrooms and the living room.If you want to bring your pet along,the cottage has appropriate lodging for cats and dogs.In the village nearby(0,3miles away),Raposa,you can find restaurants,a gas station,and a grocery store where you can buy the daily baked village bread.But if you want to visit the region and go shopping,you can drive or use a bicycle to get to Almeirim(7,5miles)or to Coruche(12,5miles),two beautiful and picturesque medieval cities,and taste its splendid cuisine,with such traditional food as“Sopa da Pedra”and“Ensopado de Enguias”.The regional wine is a must,so are the local fruits. " For those who love horses, the farm has a privileged location, close to equestrian centers:Convento da Serra(1 km)and the Quinta da Alorna (12 km) where you can practice or learn to ride.Santarém´s history goes way back to the beginning of the Portuguese kingdom.Kings lived in Santarém,princes were born there and fearsome battles took place in this region.Some of the most beautiful Portuguese towers,monasteries and palaces are located in Santarém and its surrounding region.The city itself,a magic daedalus of small and sinuous streets,is known as the capital of the Gothic.Its magnificent heritage“Portas do Sol”,door of the sun;the archaeological museum of Saint John of Alporão;and several other churches and museums)is just part of a dense 10 square miles area of world heritage:the Almourol Castle,built on a tiny island in the middle of the Tagus river;Museum of Patudos;Roman bridge,at Muge; picturesque village of Arripiado,with its white houses reflected on the Tagus water;Constância,home to Camões,poet of the Portuguese epic Lusíadas.Further away,Tomar is also a sanctuary for heritage visiting:there you can admire the fabulous Convent of Christ,the Castle of the Templars,Roman“Ponte Velha”(old bridge).Should you prefer nature,there is plenty of choice in this region of the fertile Tagus Valley:the fluviarum of Mora;the barrage in Montargil,the ideal place to go if you are a nautical sports lover;the natural park of the Sorraia,where you can observe the wild horses running free.You can also buy local handicraft made of cork,or wood, and tast excelent cuisine. Means of access :
When you are travelling by car, from Lisbon or Porto, take highway A1. Take the exit to Santarém and then follow EN114. If you are coming from the Algarve, take highway A2, then A13. Take the exit to Almeirim and then follow EN114. If you are using public transportation, you can take a bus to Almeirim, or the train to Santarém. From there, you can rent a vehicle to Raposa. If you are a bicycle user, you can cycle to Raposa - the distance is around 15 miles. Once you get passed Raposa, the cottage is on the left side of EN114. The entrance, a large, green metal door, is signalled with a plaque indicating “HERDADE DA RAPOSINHA”, at KM 95+800.In the area:
