You dispose of a
holiday week or you want to go for a trip for a weekend? Then choose
Calvados. This Norman department will astonish you. Its beaches, its villages and its countryside have been immortalized by famous painters such as Boudin. And there is a reason for that: they are beautiful.
The sea first, whose beaches are sometimes trendy like at
Deauville and sometimes quiet like at Ouistreham, will please any holiday-maker. Those who like sea sports could practice lots of activities thanks to the numerous boat clubs present along the cost. The others could simply enjoy the gorgeous show of the waves that the sea offers to them.
Deeper into the lands comes the true character of Calvados: authentic villages and lovely houses to rent within dales and countryside.
Bed and breakfasts can also welcome you so that you can benefit from the charms and from the peace of the region. Menus at restaurants are also wonderful. They reflect the variety of what lands of Calvados produce. For instance, they propose some cheese, whose name often comes from the city where it is directly produced, and other specialties such as
andouille de Vire, toffee from Isigny, milk marmalade, but also alcohols such as Calvados or cider.
After a good meal, you could wander in one of the centenarian cities of the region. You could also relive History at the
Memorial in Caen (Centre for History) or at Bayeux where the Bayeux tapestry is displayed, telling how the very Norman William the Conqueror took over
England.
