La Tomatina : let the battle begin !
The Tomatina takes place every last Wednesday of August from 10am to 1pm in Buñol, a small town approximately 25 kilometres from Valencia, on the Costa del Azahar.

Every year the
Tomatina attracts up to 20 000 people for a few fun-packed hours of pelting each other with large red tomatoes in the
streets of Buñol.
Over 140 tons of tomatoes are brought in from the countryside for the event.
Theory has it that the Tomatina started in 1945 as a juvenile class war and it soon became a point of honour and mark of tribal loyalty to make a stand at the tomato-stained barriers.
Tomatina attire includes an old t-shirt, old shorts and eye goggles. Nothing too dressy or you might really feel like going to war!
To mark the start and end of the Tomatina a rocket is launched, and at 1pm a tough clean-up of the tomato-stained streets begins.
But the Tomatina is only one of the celebrations of a week-long festival with music, fireworks, food a whole lot of fun !
