Kick off the winter with a bang!

Guy Fawkes was a conspirator who plotted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in the early 17th century, with the aim to displace Protestant rule whilst King James I and the entire Protestant aristocracy and nobility were inside. Bonfire night, or Guy Fawkes Night, is celebrated across the United Kingdom on the evening of the 5th of November.

As soon as it gets dark, festivities begin all over the country and there are tens of thousands of private bonfire parties. Celebrations involve fireworks displays and the building of bonfires in which effigies of Guy Fawkes are burnt. Food and drink is customary, and traditional bonfire treats include Parkin, baked potatoes, hot soup and cocoa.
